@woozle @pixelpaperyarn I'd been using that hashtag (#tootstorm) mostly so I could find my own longer-chain bits myself. The term's not mine.
I have been known to ... abuse ... the form a tad. I think 60-80 toots is about my max ;-)
@pixelpaperyarn I've heard those called "Tweetstorms", or on Mastodon "tootstorms".
I've seen @dredmorbius use the #tootstorm hashtag. Maybe that's something to promote.
I've done a few here, but I don't think I tagged them. When I have a longer-form thought to post, I usually post it on my Hubzilla instance (https://hub.iseeamess.com/channel/woozle) and just link it from here.
...for the formatting features, if nothing else.
(Aside: wish more people would use Hubzilla.)
Thought I've been mulling: Designate a day of the month to data liberation.
Get YOUR data archived off SOMEONE ELSE'S system.
This isn't /removing/ it (unless you choose), but it is /getting a copy of what you created or want to control/.
So, that's the basic concept.
I'm thinking my way through the idea and am posting this to brainstorm.
My basic thought is to 1) organise the document as a FAQ, and 2) address process.
So let's dive in ....

It has come to my attention that Mastodon, and/or OSocial, and/or the Fediverse, are no longer what they once were. They're being flooded by Normals. Or People who Don't Speak my Language. または私のアルファベットを使用しない人。
It's becoming like ... birdland.
Or worse: Facebook.
So, here's a thought for you: Facebook was once literally Harvard.
And whatever you think of FB or Harvard, it most certainly isn't any more. Which is a thought you might want to keep in mind. Because change.
"Bad hygiene causes decentralisation" is an idea I've been picking at for a few days. The essay I'd been writing had gotten itself backed into a corner, and then the file itself was lost in a computer restart. So I'm taking a fresh stab at this. The tootstorm mode has its advantages, so I'll try forming my thoughts here....

Is there any concept of an ontology or hierarchy of network node types? I can think of a few variants off the top of my head:
0. Null
1. Endpoint. An entry point, but no exit.
2. Binary. An entry point and an exit. This is a link (or edge in graph theory).
3. Ports > 2. Some sort of junction, possibly a bus.
4. Flow-change: either constrictive or expansive.
5. A buffer -- storage. May be FIFO, LIFO, or FIRO/LIRO (random access).
@wrenpile ...might not try to buy influence. But if that becomes generally known, they not only blow their /own/ reputation, but that of the parties they've tried to buy from.
Vetting itself is a deep problem *and is not inherently reliable.* Instead, it's based on /likelihoods/, but also has an /inherent capacity for failure/. The deeper the trust, the deeper the potential betrayal. That itself is a millennia-old topic, with many references worth reading.

Those who /are/ aware of people who tend to get hurt easily might also look for ways to look out for them. There's a tradition of this in larger society, and it can be useful. I'm not sure how well that translates to Mastodon, or what extensions might be necessary to set it up, but that's something @Gargron and the other #Mastodev folk might want to consider.

#iOS #Mastodon #tootstorm tip: Use the Pages app, which will give you a running character count if you:
• select Word Count from the ellipsis menu;
• tap the word count at the bottom of your text to pop up a menu;
• select Characters (with spaces)
Then you can create as many nearly-500-character toots in the Pages app as you want, and then let them rip in the Masto web app or #Amaroq.
Neologism for a neologistic age: "Minimum viable user"
In my recent comments on Google Chrome, I tossed out a phrase describing the lowest-skilled user a product might feasibly accommodate, or if you're business-minded, /profitably/ accommodate. The hazard being that such an MVU then /drags down/ the experience for others, and in particular expert or experienced users. More to follow.
First, this appears a new coinage:

Connecting the #tootstorm I just had to the #metaDon hashtag.
A few things I'm noticing and feeling friction on WRT Mastodon:
In other similar systems, I've wanted to have some way of classifying other profiles, largely along ideosyncratic axis of my own choosing. A few of these relate to how much content I'm interested in seeing: all, some, little. More have to do with flags or biases I've noted. "Wibbles on about boring shite", such as I may do, f'rex.
Noting people with specifix axes routinely hauled out for grinding is another.
